Feb 09, 2019 There are a few things to keep in mind and check: iOS backups made in iCloud and iTunes back up your mail settings, but not your emails. If you delete or change your email account settings, previously downloaded emails might be removed from your iOS device.

AOL provides SMTP servers for the iPad’s Mail app and other email programs. Simple mail transfer protocol servers function differently than POP servers; every action you take with your AOL email on your iPad is copied on the IMAP server. If you organize your email into folders, you can access your AOL email from elsewhere and see the same folders you set up on your iPad. While the iPad includes AOL as an email option, you can also set up your AOL email account manually.
1.Tap the “Mail” app on your iPad’s home screen, tap “Other” and tap “Mail Account.” If you already have an email account set up, tap the “Settings” icon on the home screen, tap “Mail, Contacts, Calendars” in the sidebar and tap “Add Account.”
2.Type your name into the 'Name' box using the onscreen keyboard. You can enter any name you want; your iPad sends this name with each email you send.
3.Type your full AOL email address in the form “[email protected]” into the 'Address' box. If you have an AOL email address with a different domain, such as “@games.com” or “@love.com,” use that domain instead.
4.Enter your AOL email password into the 'Password' box.
5.Type a description for your email account into the 'Description' box and tap “Next.”
7.Type “Imap.aol.com” into the 'Host Name' box under 'Incoming Mail Server.'
8.Type “Smtp.aol.com” into the 'Host Name' box under 'Outgoing Mail Server.'
9.Enter your full AOL email address into the 'Username' boxes under both 'Incoming Mail Server' and 'Outgoing Mail Server.'
10.Enter your AOL email password into the 'Password' boxes under 'Incoming Mail Server' and 'Outgoing Mail Server.'
Tips
- If you already have an AOL email account set up on your iPad, you can tap its name on the Settings screen to view and edit its SMTP settings.
- Use the 'Accounts' section in the Mail app to switch between multiple email accounts if you have multiple accounts set up. You can also tap “All Inboxes” to view mail from all email accounts on the same screen.

Access your AOL Mail and respond to it in any compatible email client or app by entering specific information about AOL Mail and your account. Input the AOL Mail IMAP server settings to access AOL Mail messages and folders in Outlook, Mac Mail, Windows 10 Mail, Thunderbird, Incredimail, or in an email app for a compatible provider.
In some cases, when you set up an AOL Mail account at a different mobile app, you may not be required to enter the IMAP settings. For example, when you add an AOL Mail account to the iPhone Mail app, go to the Accounts section in the iPhone's settings and select theAOL icon. The phone is preconfigured to contain the IMAP settings except for your username and password.

Features Unavailable From Other Mail Applications
When you access AOL Mail from another email application, you can send and receive emails, and you have access to your AOL folders. However, these features aren't available:
- Message status: You can't retrieve unopened mail from AOL users and you can't check the status of a sent message like you can from the AOL Mail interface.
- Spam. You can't access the Report Spam button. To report an email as spam, move it to the Spam folder or Junk folder of the email client.
- Deleted mail. Some email applications do not show deleted mail. Some show deleted emails in the original folder but mark the message for deletion.
Why IMAP?
AOL recommends using the IMAP settings in an email client instead of POP3, although both protocols are supported.
IMAP syncs the service with your AOL Mail account. Whatever you do with a message on the email service or app shows up in the AOL Mail interface at AOL.
POP protocols do not sync email actions. POP protocols download a copy of the email from AOL. If you delete the email in one place, it isn't deleted in the other.
